# OpenAI Account

This guide walks you through the process of creating an account on the OpenAI platform. Follow the steps below to join the platform, set up your organization and project, generate your first API key, and prepare for API access.

### Step 1: Navigating to the Sign-Up Page

1. Open your web browser and go to [OpenAI Platform](https://platform.openai.com/docs/overview) page.
2. Click on the <mark style="background-color:green;">Sign up</mark> button in the top-right corner.

2. Use your Google Account or another email address to create your account.

### Step 2: Set Up Your Account

Once logged in, you will be prompted to create or join an organization. This is required to access API keys and manage your projects.

* Click the <mark style="background-color:green;">Start Building</mark> button.
  * This action will initiate the process of setting up your organization.

#### Step 2.1: Creating an organization

Fill in the Details:

* **Organization Name**: Enter a name that represents either your personal workspace or your project.
* **What Best Describes You?**: Provide a short description that best fits your role or purpose.

* The organization name can represent your **"Personal Organization"**, or have your project's name.
* The second field can be anything.

#### Step 2.2: Invite your team

Team Invitation:

* At this stage, you can invite your team to the organization.
* Skip this step by clicking *"I'll invite my team later"*.

#### Step 2.3: Make your first API call

* **Generate an API Key:**
  * Click the option to generate a new API key.
  * This allows you to see how an API key is created and under which project it is registered.
* **Project Consideration:**
  * As you work on various projects, you can create dedicated projects within your organization and generate new API keys for specific services.
* **Security Reminder:**
  * Save the generated API key in a secure place. Do not share it with anyone.
  * If you lose your API key, simply create a new one.

* Save the generated API key somewhere safe and do not share it with anyone (at least in this step).
* If you lose your API key, you can create a new one later.

#### Step 2.4: Add some API credits

* **Top-Up for Testing:**
  * For testing purposes, a **$5 credit** is typically enough to cover initial expenses.
* **Automatic Top-Up Option:**
  * For larger projects, you can set up an automatic top-up that activates when your balance falls below a predefined threshold.

#### Step 2.5: Verify the access to the platform

After completing the steps above, you will be returned to the main OpenAI Platform interface with new features unlocked:

* **Playground and Dashboard:**
  * Located in the top-right corner.
* **Organization Name:**
  * Displayed in the top-left corner (e.g., set as "Personal").
* **Project name:**
  * Also shown in the top-left corner (e.g., set as "Default project").
